Upgraded to WordPress 2.5

I’ve upgraded Geekie.org to WordPress 2.5 (stable), and am very satisfied with the new look. Users won’t experience too many differences, but the admin backend and PHP code do differ from WordPress 2.3.

Here are some more pictures:

The Plugin Management page

An administrator can now easily deactivate all the plugins, or even upgrade the plugins from this page without a separate deactivate, download, upload, unpack, activate process.

The administrator can now choose the colour scheme for the admin backend, and new colour schemes are being released by developers.

Writing a post uses a similar but different interface now. It looks a lot more user-friendly. Unfortunately for me, the Visual editor has some JavaScript issues, probably due to conflicting code from plugins.

The administrator, and other editors can easily upload and insert pictures into posts now. A post can become a gallery of images!

The administrator can also manage existing media in the overlay.

The registration form for users also looks a bit different. Unfortunately, the OpenID and SABRE plugins weren’t styled for the new look; hopefully a newer version will integrate better.

Similarly, the login form looks different.

Well, having seen all of this, I hope you share my excitement for WordPress 2.5. You can download it and install it on your own PHP-MySQL hosting, or get a blog on the WordPress platform at PersonalLog. (PersonalLog doesn’t yet have the same features because the code of WordPress ยต hasn’t been fully synced with that of the mainstream WordPress. But it will come… in time.)
